Bark gray, exfoliating in scales or thin strips. Juvenile leaves triangular, somewhat flattened, 2-2.5 cm. long, scale-like, sharply acute. Branches spreading, lanceolate, branchlets 3-5 cm. in diameter. Adult leaves scale-like, triangular, imbricate, stomata on both surfaces, midrib prominent, 3-3.5 cm. long by 1.5-2 cm. wide, apex acuminate and incurved. Male cone cylindrical, 13-25 cm. long by 28-37 mm. wide, scales acuminate at the apex, microsporophylls cuspidate, pollen sacs 20 per scale. Female cone 11-15 cm. long by 8-10 cm. wide; with short, erect bracts 10-20 mm. long. Seeds 3-3.2 cm. long, with narrow, triangular nuts; wings short and broad.
