Two varieties, P. patula var. patula (syn: P. patula var. macrocarpa Masters 1891) and P. patula var. longipedunculata Loock ex Martínez 1948 (1).

Mexico: Tamaulipas, Querétaro, Hidalgo, México, Distrito Federal, Morelos, Tlaxcala, Puebla, Veracruz, Oaxaca and Chiapas (1). See also (2).
